Information Security Vs Cyber Security
What is Information Security?
Information security is another way to call data security. It is a set of practices design to keep data secure from unauthorized access and alternation during storing or transmitting from one place to another. It refers to process and methodologies that designed and implemented to protect the print, electronic or any other form of confidential, private and sensitive information or data from authorized access, use, misuse, disclosure, destruction, modification or disruption. Cyber Security is about protecting data in electronic form(such as computers, servers, networks, mobile devices, etc.) from being compromised or checked. Also known as Information Technology security or electronic information security. It can be divided into a few common categories,
- Network Security: Practice of securing a computer network from intruders, where target attackers or opportunistic malware.
- Application Security: Focuses on keeping software and devices free of threats.
- Information Security: Protects the integrity and privacy of data, both in storage and transit.
- Operational Security: Includes the processes and decisions for handling and protecting data assets.
- Disaster recovery and business continuity: Define how an organization responds to a cyber-security incident or any other event that causes the loss of operations or data.
- End-user education: Addresses the most unpredictable cyber-security factor: people.
Where Information Security and Cyber Security Overlap?
There is some overlap between Cyber Security and Information Security. It makes some justified confusion about those two-term.
In the Information security, our concern goes to protecting data from unauthorized access in any sort. But in Cyber Security, our main concern is protecting data from authorized electronic access. But in both Information Security and Cyber Security, the value of data is of utmost importance.
But both circumstance most important thing is defining data which can make damage to the organization if it accessed without authorization. So then they can focus on placing the right cyber risk management and monitoring controls on that data.
Difference between Information Security and Cyber Security?
As I mentioned above, Information Security focuses on the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information. The job of an Information Security professional is to understand and identify what confidential information is critical or could be the target of a physical or cyber attack.
The parallel between Information Security and Cyber Security?
And Cybersecurity professionals are largely concerned with securing electronic data from cyber threats and data breaches, there are still forms of physical security in their job description.
Summary
Cybersecurity and Information Security might be different, but both equally important to any organization. We can say Cybersecurity is a subset of Information security, both they are focus on data protection. Now you can easy to understand why many people discuss Cybersecurity and Information security in the same breath. I think you will get a good idea about both Information Security and Cybersecurity.
